Azure Kingfishers, Rainbow Bee-eaters, Tawny Frogmouths, White-plumed Honeyeaters. These are just some of the birds you will be able to observe and identify on the Pfeiffer Wines Twitch and Switch Birding Experience.

We will provide you with Vortex Diamondback binoculars and an A3 Bird List, complete with a map showing the places you will visit during your experience.

We will also send you a link to download the free, fun and easy-to-use Merlin Bird ID app with your booking confirmation.

To get the most out of your experience, we encourage you to download the app BEFORE you arrive.

During your experience, you will Twitch and Switch between five different locations on-site, each with slightly different bird habitats.

Simply open the app at each location, tap on the Sound ID button on the main menu or home screen and press the red record button. This allows your phone to listen to the environment. As birds sing, the app generates a real-time list of matching bird species, complete with thumbnail photos and audio examples.

You can also identify birds using Merlin Photo ID, Merlin Bird ID, or simply with your own eyes and ears.

Like any good twitcher, your challenge is to find and record as many birds as possible whilst you are at the winery.

This is such a relaxing and peaceful activity — a chance to slow down, be in the moment and immerse yourself in the natural environment around you.

Birding is definitely not boring though! There is a wonderful sense of excitement and exhilaration when you spot something.  

It is also a wonderful way to increase your knowledge about the many types and species of birds native to our special natural environment.

Other useful information:

• The experience starts at 9am, when the winery opens. Birds are most active in the morning, so please try and download Merlin Bird ID before you arrive so you are ready to use it when you start your experience.
• Comfortable shoes are important, as you will probably walk around 2 km in total.
• Please consider wearing closed shoes, as you will walk through grass.
• Please remember to bring a hat.
• You are very welcome to bring your own binoculars if you prefer.
• Wine by the glass and bottle, as well as cheese platters, can be purchased on the day as additional extras to enjoy whilst you are participating in this experience.
